REHABILITATION

Physiotherapy is an important part of any recovery whether you have had an acute injury or you have a chronic problem, whether you've had surgery or not.  Dr. Roberts will provide a custom physiotherapy prescription to you has required to help guide you and your therapist through any restrictions or recommendations for your physiotherapy treatment.  If you do not have access to a physiotherapy clinic due to travel or financial constraints or would prefer to try to rehab on your own initially, here are some basic exercises you can start with.  Make sure you are staying within your restrictions from Dr. Roberts.  Are you able to put weight on your foot or through your arm yet? Is movement ok during this stage of your recovery? This should have been discussed with Dr. Roberts or it will be listed on your physiotherapy prescription or on your post-operative instructions.  Make sure you confirm any restictions prior to starting these general exercise programs provided in large part by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS, OrthoInfo) .
